Mission
To create positive community change through supporting and growing each child's individual academic journey, cultural understanding, historical appreciation, active communication, and healthy social emotional development by providing a safe, secure, positive, and stable learning environment.
About
Our program is funded through a 5-year grant provided by the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Program. This grant supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. OSPI oversees the administration of this federally funded grant.

SHARP Kids' Goals

Academic
Our goal is for your child to feel confident and capable in achieving all they set their minds too. While our program has a strong reading and math focus, we also center our academics in project-based learning. Our lessons are strategically structured to grow vital problem solving skills, innovation, and independent thinking.
Behavior
We coach and encourage our students in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) through research based practices such as Stanford Harmony, Shepherding a Child’s Heart, Love and Logic, Restorative Justice, and PBIS. We create a community of mentorship that teaches life skills, decision making, healthy and honoring relationships, and problem solving through meaningful connection with safe and caring adults.
Family Engagement
Family is a cornerstone of our program. Our students' families are a vital and welcome part of our SHARP Kids' Community. We seek to address and support each family's concerns and needs through one-on-one meetings, parent workshops, and surveys. Check out our "Parents" page for more information.

Testimonials
Joining SHARP kids has been one of the best opportunities my two children have been able to participate in! Ranging from the incredibly engaging and fun activities, to the songs, and now the summer program field trips, my children never want to stop learning. While tele-working through the pandemic SHARPS kids has provided the tools in exciting activities to encourage my kids to go outside and discover, plant seeds, and make awesome and educational arts and crafts! Without SHARP kids I would not have been able to have the time or resources to provide these opportunities to my kids! All the teachers and director care about my kids and want them to succeed; it truly is breathtaking how wonderful this program is! Thank you for accepting my kiddos and we can't wait for the program to start up again this fall!
Julia True-Fowler (SHARP Kid Parent)
I always enjoy my summer experience with SHARP Kids! The staff is wonderful and supportive and the students are AMAZING! Going swimming, hiking, biking, kayaking, rock climbing, the many field trips, etc., encourage the students to want to be at program everyday while they also do some learning. Safety, Honesty, Awareness, Respectfulness, and Presence are outstanding qualities that help lead SHARP Kids to be successful members within their community.

This was my first summer ever being involved with SHARP Kids. And I must say, what a wonderful experience. If I had known the staff was so much fun, and that SHARP Kids activities were so interactive, I may have participated when I was younger. Thank you to all the parents for allowing me to be a part of your kid's youth. It was a summer that I won't forget!
